For those of you who think working out is the definition of torture, I challenge you to try out Zumba. This class is all about shaking your groove thing while burning calories with a smile. Yes, you will be smiling!
To be honest, I always thought classifying Zumba as a workout was a bit of a stretch, but after ten minutes of continual movement all of my skepticism was gone. I was pouring in sweat, my heart was pounding and I was having a blast!
As a newbie, I was pretty daring and went to the toning class. Personally, the movements and weights are more up to my speed than a typical session without weights, but if you’ve never been to an exercise class before I recommend starting with the basic class. If you are someone who has never taken dance do not let that intimidate you from giving it a try.
Within minutes of the first song it was apparent that I’m an athletic girl who is not poised or graceful, and definitely not comfortable pumping, rolling and shaking certain parts of my body in front of complete strangers. Surprisingly though, it didn’t take long for my insecurities to disappear, and before I knew it I was dancing right along with everyone else.
This is a high energy class that is a lot of fun and a great cardio alternative for those of you who get bored on the elliptical and treadmill. Try this class, I promise you will not regret it!
